In the final installment of the Banter podcast’s Road to Freedom series, AEI President Arthur Brooks and Michael Strain sit down to discuss sources and solutions for the US debt problem. How large is the debt? What’s driving it? How can we solve it? Arthur and Michael present not only a detailed understanding of the debt, but why our concern for the underprivileged must drive political leaders towards a long term solution. Andrew also struggles to refrain from saying “excited” too often.

Banter #42: The one about Iran’s nuclear capabilities

In the 42nd episode of Banter, Maseh Zarif, AEI Research Manager and Iran Team Lead for the Critical Threats Project, talks with us about Iran’s current nuclear capabilities.  Maseh lays out a chillingly accurate picture what Iran would need in order to develop a nuclear device, Iran’s current capabilities, and possible timelines of when this all could become a reality. We pay particular attention to what goes into producing highly enriched uranium, the ingredient in all this. Even more impressive, Maseh has put all of this together using publicly available information. It’s spooks Andrew enough that he resolves to build himself a bomb shelter.

Stu and Andrew sit down with AEI trade experts Claude Barfield and Matt Jension to discuss industrial production chains. Okay, so Stu was a little skeptical on this one. But Claude and Matt know their stuff. They give us a fascinating overview on the multifaceted dimensions of international trade, trade theory, policies that are constructive and destructive to it, and some issues the US faces going forward. If you’re at all interested in our globalized economy, you’ll love this edition of Banter. Both Stu and I learned a lot and we’re sure you will too.

On this, the thirty-third episode of AEI’s podcast, Banter, hosts Stu and and Andrew sit down with AEI visiting fellow Marc Thiessen. With the AEI-Heritage-CNN Republican presidential debate on tuesday night, they talk about the issues the candidates should discuss, why a debate of foreign policy is critically important, and what we’ve seen from the candidates thus far on foreign policy.  Also, as Stu struggles with tooth problems, Andrew pushes his methaphor making ability beyond its capacity.

This time on Banter, Stu and Apoorva sit down with AEI Research Fellow Andrew Kelly to talk about his work on the politics of for-profit education. Think University of Phoenix.

It’s a fascinating discussion, and the boys even have time to chat a bit of politics and current events.
