Banter #72: A Nation of Takers

In the latest episode of the Banter Podcast, AEI Scholar Nick Eberstadt sits down to discuss his new book, Nation of Takers, and talk all things entitlements – how the government’s role has changed, how large entitlements have grown, and how entitlements have changed the American character. Some of his findings might surprise you. Nick marshals an incredibly detailed knowledge of the economic and moral issues surrounding the country’s welfare programs, while still keeping the issues clear. Even Andrew manages to keep up. Look for his book out at the end of the month.

In the latest episode of AEI’s Banter Podcast, AEI economist Andrew Biggs comes into the studio to discuss all things entitlement reform. Andrew marshals his extensive knowledge of the subject to put into perspective the current unsustainability of entitlement spending, possible sources of reform, and how reforming entitlements is an imperative to help the disadvantaged. We also discuss public sector unions in the wake of Wisconsin. This being the fifth part (Stu, is that right?) of our Road to Freedom series, we also focus the discussion on just how entitlement reform can help maximize individual choice.
