In the latest episode of the AEI Banter podcast, AEI’s own Daniel Hanson sits down to answer whether or not trillion dollar deficits are sustainable for the US. While the GDP to deficit ratio may be high, there are other factors that enable the US to bear its current deficit. Daniel discusses what those factors are, what’s currently driving the deficit, and what the costs of decreasing the deficit would be. Daniel also compares America’s situation to that of several European nations, suggesting that things could be worse. What a silver lining!

In the latest episode of Banter, Gary Schmitt, the Co-Director the Marilyn Ware Center for Security Studies, discusses foreign policy and the presidential election with hosts Stu James and Andrew Rugg. Gary assesses not only how each candidate did during the third and final presidential debate, but what Romney and Obama revealed about their foreign policies. We also go region by region, examining what each candidate said (or didn’t say) about the Middle East, Europe, Latin America, Asia, and Africa. Enjoy!

Stu and Andrew sit down with the head of AEI’s Russian studies department, Dr. Leon Aron, to go in depth about the current situation in Russia. With protests spreading after claims of a fraudulent election, Dr. Aron puts the protests into perspective and talks about what’s next for the Russian people, Putin, and the future of democracy in Russia.  Dr. Aron draws upon his own recent travels to give a dramatic and clear picture of the present tensions. It all begs an important question: What will happen in the upcoming Russian presidential elections next year?
